At the start of the pandemic we feared the worst for the real estate market in Hua Hin but it remained steady throughout the pandemic and the town itself, although seriously affected, was not hit as hard as some other places in Thailand such as Phuket and Pattaya. Indeed the market in Hua Hin has seen a significant upturn over the past few months as interest in Hua Hin as a percentage of all interest in all the major real estate markets grew by 5%. So why the sudden surge in interest?

The Thais Love Hua Hin
Obviously the complete lack of tourists has had an effect on the town but even so, the weekends have still been very busy throughout the pandemic (especially the holiday weekends). Hua Hin is home to the royal palace which invokes great pride in the locals and is why Hua Hin is generally kept clean and looked after. Indeed I have had more Thai buyers than ever before.

Viable 2nd Home from Bangkok
Following on closely from this is Hua Hin’s close proximity from Bangkok making it a perfectly viable option for Thais and foreigners alike. It’s a 3 hour drive from Bangkok and with the new faster train line nearing completion it will be even quicker. Plus the widening of the road at Rama 2 as you exit Bangkok is also nearing completion with its elevated highway. Throughout the pandemic I’ve been very grateful for my situation; better to be stuck at home with a nice terrace and a swimming pool and I think many people are planning for the future should such an event reoccur (touch wood).

The Airport is Expanding
Official plans have been made for the widening of the runway at Hua Hin airport which will accomodate more flights; most notably Singapore and Hong Kong. Will property prices remain the same moving forward?

Perfect for a Holiday Home
Hua Hin, with its beautiful beaches, interesting topography, water parks, restaurants and leisure activities make it a great holiday destination for the whole family.

First World Amenities
I’ll argue with anybody that Hua Hin is the most livable place in Thailand and the first world amenities that we enjoy are one of the primary factors that I’ll put forward. The Golf courses are second to none, Bangkok Hospital is world class, the International School is top notch and there are countless beautiful hotels and resorts which are open to the public (material for another post I believe). Plus the supermarkets are well worth a mention too: if you know where to look you can buy just about anything here; I can even get Marmite and Lindt Swiss Chocolate 🙂
