My wife and I recently discovered a little pearl of a restaurant by the sea that has become our regular weekend brunch spot. I say discovered because I’ve never seen more than a couple of westerners there each time. However, there are always lots of Thai people there, which, as all of those of you who have been living here for some time will know, is a good sign. It’s always busy at the weekend (which is why we opt for the more pretentious brunch rather than lunch) and it’s easy to see why.
Baan Gli Wang is in a quaint little setting by the sea with a slightly colonial feel to it; Hemingway supping a daiquiri would not look out of place here. The gardens are nicely done and of course the sea is right there. They do great smoothies to accompany some interesting twists on Thai classics such as green curry with roti rather than rice. Their Massaman is great and even the humble fried rice is delicious.
The dessert menu and cakes are notably good. I’ve eaten a lot of cheesecake in my time and their lime cheesecake is amazing. The chocolate cake is also ‘knock you for 6’ good. I’d fully recommend heading here as a little Sunday morning treat.
Baan Gli Wang is located on the sea front not far from Soi 51.
